SUGO
Hi! My name is Karima and I will be writing five blogs rating authentic Italian restaurants in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. For my first blog, I will be rating Sugo in Glasgow City Centre.
Sugo is located in Mitchell Street, right in the middle of Glasgow's bustling City Centre. It's only a short walk from Glasgow Central Station, and is just off of Buchanan Street, it's very easy to find!
What I loved the most about Sugo, is that the pasta is made from scratch every single day - and each portion is made fresh for every order. Fresh pasta is such a game changer for every dish! Their menu consists of 10 pasta dishes, all from different regions of Italy, fully incorporating various cultures in Italy!
We were seated immediately when we arrived - which was a huge bonus considering how busy the restaurant was. The restaurant was open plan and we were seated closer to the front of the restaurant. You were able to see the chefs creating our meal from afar. Throughout the restaurant, their was an industrial, chilled ambiance. The incredible smell of the fresh pasta dishes being made consumed the restaurant making everyone extremely hungry!
The restaurant was able to seat up to 200 people. Although it was a huge area - the seating was very close together. We were seated at a long table in between other guests. The downside to this was we could hear other peoples conversations - and they could hear us. So the lack of privacy was definitely a downfall - but the quality of food definitely made up for it.
I went for a very simple dish - spinach and ricotta ravioli with sage butter and my friend opted for the Rigatoni Al'Arrabiata, spicy San Marzana & fresh baby plum tomato sugo - both from the Lazio region of Italy. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and incredibly filling!
Thanks to the pasta being made fresh everyday - you could really taste the exquisite flavours used to create the dish, and the portions were a very good size especially considering the price of the dishes! The service was pretty basic, and the environment was very lively but the downfall was how close together the seats are. But if you don't mind that, I'm sure you will find Sugo a great option for high quality, affordable authentic Italian pasta in Glasgow!
Thank you for this amazing review, I tried the pasta and it is truly the closest you can get to Italian authentic pasta in glasgow , perfectly “al dente” ❤️
