SANTA LUCIA - MERCHANT CITY
This week I was fortunate enough to visit Santa Lucia in Merchant City.
Santa Lucia is located on Ingram Street - a 5 minute walk from Royal Exchange Square. Santa Lucia is situated in the heart of Merchant City and surrounded by vibrant restaurants and bars. Santa Lucia had no trouble standing out with their branding which correlates directly with the Amalfi coast of Italy.
Santa Lucia's mission statement states that they want to take you on a gastronomic journey to the heart of Neapolitan cuisine and culture - and I felt they had done exactly that. When you entered the restaurant, they greeted you with Italian phrases such as "Ciao" and when addressing you they would address you with "Signor" or "Signora", which added to the authenticity of the restaurant.
The decor was well designed to suit the elegant Amalfitana theme throughout the restaurant. The restaurant had great attention to detail to their finer things and most of their produce was produced in Italy, which only added to the Italian vibe. Santa Lucia had a great wine collection which was on full display to the restaurant - precisely how a true Italian would showcase their wine display. In terms of soft drinks, Santa Lucia incorporated their Italian authenticity by serving Italy's finest - San Pellegrino.
Now onto the food - of course I couldn't help myself by choosing yet another pasta dish. This time I opted for the Penne Arrabbiata. I found this dish to be the perfect combination of tomato and red chilli. Neither ingredients dominated the dish, and you could subtlety taste the basil and garlic. I had to compliment my pasta with garlic bread and mozzarella.
In terms of the pricing, I felt Santa Lucia's pricing was very reasonable, especially considering it was a Saturday night in the heart of the city centre. For four people, the whole meal cost just under £60, and we opted for many drinks and a variety of sides.
Overall, I thought our meal in Santa Lucia was very pleasant. It has a convenient location, excellent food and reasonable prices and is everything you'd look for in a restaurant.
If you'd like to visit Santa Lucia, you can book a table on their website here: https://santaluciaglasgow.com/ and please let me know how you get on!
